This trip heads south toward the protected waters of the Moonlight Bay section of Hebgan Lake . These glassy waters provide kayakers easy paddling and a chance to see its many resident osprey and bald eagles fishing for Montana's world-class trout. The trip then heads south toward the dam. After shouting back at yourself from echo cove, you cruise past countless osprey nests. Hebgen Lake then bottlenecks and we arrive on the north shore of the lake where in 1959, a major earthquake caused three historic cabins to fall into the water. The Forest service has preserved this site and the sunken cabins are still visible today from your kayak.

Yellowstone Holiday: "The Narrows"

Yellowstone Holiday launch is located at an area of Hebgen Lake known as the Narrows. This gives Kayakers a few options on where to paddle giving vastly different views. A strong paddler will pass a variety of terrain and give themselves more opportunities to see wildlife. One options heads south paddling along the secluded beaches of Horse Bluff, a tall sandy bluff that resembles a horse's main. Or a paddler could chose to explore the Grayling Arm, which starts just west of the mouth of the grayling creek giveing an excellent opportunity to see Pelican and their young out fishing for breakfast. Anywhere you explore along the Grayling arm will provide excellent views of Red Canyon and Loin's Head Mountain while cattle and horses come down to the waters edge to drink.
